welcome to wags hun, u've defo come to the right place. i'm an army wag. i think the girls have pretty much answered everything for you. try not to worry too much, if he is based somewhere away from home because you're married you can always move with him. i know its a bit daunting. i've been married just over a year and living in MQ's for a year and it's not so bad. just all depends on whether you want to stay where you are and have the support of your family and friends around you, or move with him so you can live with him. it's hard coz either way you're gonna be missing someone. but fingers crossed he can get a posting close to home ay xxx

Hi hun,

Welcome to wags!

First of all, don't panic!! It sounds daft, but its a natural reaction and you really don't need to worry for now.

His basic training will be tough, and alot of lads don't stick at it for one reason or another, you just need to be there for him to support him and tell him you love him and you're proud of him no matter what

The army do offer housing but i don't know how flexible they are about where you get to go. I know my partner doesn't get much say about his postings, but then again, we aren't married and we don't have kids (yet!).

If he stays in, i imagine he will have to go on tour. But they don't just send them out there. They have a "build up" to them, where they go out on exercises to places like Canada and Belize, normally ranging from a few weeks to a few months.

Don't panic about tours, its so easy to panic when you see so many lads getting killed at the moment. Its a small proportion considering how large our army are, and depending on what they do in the army has a big impact on how much danger they are in over there. Tours are difficult i won't lie, but the girls are here day and night, and will talk over any worries you have. I come on here all the time whinging about total crap so don't be embarassed or shy, i don't imagine it will be anything we've not heard before.

Lots of us girls have to look on the bright side, especially when our lads are away for long periods of time...for me, i make the most of having the bed to myself, what i want on the tv, i get to watch total junk that russ would never watch, i don't shave my legs...its awesome! Yes, i'd much rather him be home, but hey, i can't have that, so i take advantage of the perks while i can...because when he's home, he takes over everything lol

Nice to meet you hun, don't be a stranger now you've said hello xxx

Default Thanks everyone

He has managed to text me saying that he is thinking of me every second. He also said he felt like crying every time he thinks of me at home alone. I hate to think of him sad

22 days and counting !!!

At least I will never take him for granted ever again !!

I guess we are all lucky to have guys we miss so much

Awww poor thing! It will take him a wee bit to adjust to the lifestyle, but as long as you let him know you are fine, then that will make him happy It is hard when they are away and all they want to do is be with you, but just be there for him hun, and you both will get through it together. It is amazing how things like this can make your relationship so much stronger, and you learn to not take things for granted and appreciate the little things xxx

Hay suziethom, welcome to wags first of all and i hope you enjoy the site. The girls on here are amazing, they are very helpful!

Your OH will have to go on tour at some point.
Also seems you married you can apply for married quaters so you will be living with him on base.

What is your OH going to be training in once he has finished basic training?

xxx

Hiya hun and welcome to wags!! xx

I know exactly what you're feeling because back in November I went through it too, it's really hard! Even though it's not anywhere near tour-length, it's still a toughie because you've never been apart from them before

However once Halton is out of the way everything gets easier, believe me! He's going to be stressed and really tired these next few weeks so you have to make sure you keep him boosted and help get him through it! He's going to have his off days too but don't take it to heart They really make it tough for them!

What will your OH be doing once he's finished basic? What's his trade going to be?

He will 100% have to go on tour at one point but like the others have said, don't panic!! It's not always going to be dreaded Afghanistan and he'll need lots of preperation before he goes anywhere first anyway! (It costs them A LOT to train just one person, they want to make sure they get them 100% knowledgeable in what they're required to do before they ship them off anywhere!) He'll probably need to finish all his training first too.

As regards where you live now.. As you're married, you'll be entitled to married quarters so you'll be able to live on base with him and go with him where he's posted. I think the average is about a move every 3-6 years but I know someone who's been posted to the same base for about 8 years now. I guess it really just depends on where your hubby is needed.

Either way, welcome to wags! It's a very exciting life that you and OH are entering into now, and even though it seems really horrible you'll both grow to really quite like it! Promise! xxxxxx

Hey hun, firstly welcome to wags.

I know exactly how you feel cos ive recently had to go through basic training with my oh at Halton. It is tough and you have to be strong for your oh as it can be abit draining and he'll be missing you as much as you miss him. Does he get his weekends eventually hun? Cos i heard something about them stopping the weekends as of may?

Either way once you've got basic out of the way its sooo much better.. and as the girls have said once he's done his basic you can apply for married quarters and you can live with him on base

Any questions.. we're all here to answer!

Hope your okay hun xxx
